April 2016 - Present
In spring 2016, my friend Payal posted on facebook asking if anyone would be interested in making a zine creating a space for diasporic South Asian identities. As someone who has conflicted feeling of displacement and belonging when related to my culture, I was immediately drawn to the project. Our first issue is available online.
Payal and I were often unable to meet, so we collaborated online. We sent out a call for submissions in August, set up a Tumblr to increase our presence in the zine community, and started creating the zine with Adobe InDesign.
We evenly divided the work, with Payal reaching out to printing houses and me interfacing with contributors and managing our online presence. I was actively involved in determining the color scheme, typography, readability on the web, and defining the overarching visual architecture.
